YSL Holiday 2011 Makeup Event!

It was a very interesting YSL beauty event taking place in Athens on Nov. 25 with famous makeup artist Fred Retailleur presenting the most desirable trends for high-impact Holiday looks. Inspired by signature YSL tuxedos – very compatible with the quest for ultra chic androgynous looks this season – he gave us a step-by-step guide of two incredibly festive looks one for blond girls and another for brunettes.

If you are a brunette: You need dark, intense, theatrical eyes like those ones creating a film noir character and softer, warmer lips. You have to start with dark pencil on the upper eyelids, which is going to be the foundation for dark eye shadows. Lipstick can be further enhanced with a lip gloss.

If you are a blond: You need golden hues and black shading on eyes and darker plum lips. You work firstly with gold on the eyes and then you mix it with black eye shadow for greater depth and sophistication.

Keep in mind that you can change your face contouring and enhance your angles using a darker Touche Eclat shade under the cheekbones and always have to finish with some mascara on your upper and lower lashes, which you have to apply on closed eyes for curlier effect. Don’t forget also to apply a reasonable amount of creamy blush on your cheeks.

His favorite colors for Holiday 2011 Looks are those ones at the Palette Terriblement Noir (dark with amazing sparkle), No39 Cold Lamé/Velvet Black from the Ombres Duolumières palette, No37-40 Rouge Pour Couture (fantastic lipsticks), No44-45 White Gold Diamond Golden Gloss (for frozen & glamorous finish on lips), and Blanc Terrriblement Face Palette for magical three-shade white shimmer! Finally he insisted that plum is the ‘new red’ for lips.

Besides taking photos of the models, I had the chance to meet an old friend of mine, Nancy, and shoot her while trying the new makeup with Fred. She was thrilled with the result! Let me tell you that Fred is YSL’s makeup artist for Europe and he is truly very talented!
