Waking up early is always somehow rewarding and that was the very idea at the first show of the day, Karigam. There was some impressive cocoon-like outerwear in this collection and different options to wrap yourself when weather is chilly, which was totally in tune with the low temperatures outside the venue. Various shades of grey and warm pastels dominated the palette of choice for the designer. Fluffy fur texture juxtaposed with leather and cozy thick wools. The high collar was totally hiding noses which is a quite popular idea lately in freezing cold New York! “The KARIGAM Fall / Winter 2016 Collection is inspired by Venezuela’s Angel Falls, where the natural beauty shaped by the Tepuis Mountains and flowing water creates the perfect blend of colors and textures. Iijin showcasing at Pier59 Studios – by the way the most organized venue this season – was a very cohesive and statement-making collection too! It was rock&roll, cool, young and fresh, ideal for modern day hipsters who are backing the unconventional version of luxury. Again you could find some fluffy pieces but also bold colors and motifs such as tartan.
At Milly the atmosphere was different, as always super girly with a fun twist. The cocktail dresses at the finale of the show were both playful and gracious, making for the idea choice of eveningwear appealing to a quite broad range of profiles. Motifs were quite colorful and bright for wintertime, exuding happiness and confidence. You could really translate the looks through a Barbie-girl attitude but with Audrey-Hepburn-style sophistication infused to it!
Appropriate for the ‘happy hour’ moment of the day, later 5:31 Jerome presented a collection mixing 60s bouffant hair with disco girl glam and elements of 70s decadence. Models were posing as naughty, provocative girls, sometimes blurring gender lines and on some occasions twisting the party girl visual prototype with accessories such as geeky frames and flat fur-trimmed slippers. Of course all pieces were intricately embellished and it was obvious from all hand-made details that there was lots of work behind each of the pieces. The designer, well-known for his party-going flair, was dancing and grooving along with the models, option for the rock star attitude they deserved! [nggallery id=214]
