This spring the Hudson and Neva Rivers will meet on the runway! DEPESHA magazine is presenting the American Program at Aurora Fashion Week Russia in St. Petersburg during the Fall-Winter 2012-13 season, April 10-14th, 2012. This special series of fashion events will feature a runway show by one of the world’s most celebrated designers Thom Browne.
“I wanted to participate in this project because I think it’s important that different countries have this cultural exchange and I’ve always been fascinated by the rich history and culture of Russia,” stated Browne. Thom Browne opened his doors in the fall of 2001, exclusively offering custom made clothes. In Spring/Summer 2004, Thom Browne took his first step into ready-to-wear. All of the items from his ready-to-wear collection continue to be hand-made for the customer who values quality, fine detailing and a fresh vision. Thom Browne was the recipient of the 2006 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, finalist for the National Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum for 2006, 2008, and 2009, and a number of other prestigious honors.
“It is such a thrill to bring the extraordinary work of Thom Browne to the Russian audience! We have always taken pride in fostering a greater understanding of global fashion cultures. Our unique partnership with Aurora Fashion Week Russia will, with great force, further this mission,” said Stephan Rabimov, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of DEPESHA.
Aurora Fashion Week Russia is rapidly becoming a must-follow international fashion platform and has already welcomed such prominent designers as Manish Aurora, Mark Fast, David Koma, Mary Katrantzou, and last year, in partnership with DEPESHA, Custo Barcelona.
“St. Petersburg has historically enjoyed a reputation as country’s most cosmopolitan city, a haven for people open to new ideas in arts and culture. I believe Thom Browne’s presentation will not only be a season’s highlight of the Russian fashion scene, but also will help Russians to be more open minded. Thanks to this partnership with Depesha, the city will be able to offer the whole spectrum of impressions from the classics of the Hermitage and legendary performing arts venues to contemporary avant-garde,” said Artem Balaev, the CEO of Aurora Fashion Week.
In addition to his own label, Thom Browne is engaged in several collaborations. Since 2007 he has been designing the capsule collection Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers for men and women, as well as a line of men’s jewelry at Harry Winston. Most recently, Moncler Gamme Bleu designed by Browne debuted at Men’s Fashion Week in Milan in January 2009.
