I stated real-time that this is by far my No1 fave from the NYFW SS18! The collection called “Makeup Factory” is the magical blend of two impressive young creatives. Consisting of 20 futuristic fairytale looks set on a grass & glitter floor, the collection is the hippest glam story one can share with NYC fashion insiders. At fashion parties and events lots of cool girls and boys are rocking pearl-studded oversize silhouettes and other stunners from the brand’s past and current collections.
Laurence & Chico is a Canadian womenswear brand established in 2015 by Laurence Li and Chico Wang. The brand’s inspiration comes from Laurence’s personalized illustrations depicting their daily lives. The illustrations show only Laurence and Chico drawn as two human characters, whereas friends and family are all characterized into animals, plants, fruits or vegetable figures.
Laurence’s illustrations evoke a unique sense of humor with vivid colors inspiring Chico to use elements from those to create imaginative and bold yet delicate prints and silhouettes for their collections. Laurence Li and Chico Wang both studied at Parsons.
Chico majored in Fashion Design and has worked with top luxury brands including Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Miu Miu and world-renowned luxury boutique, Lane Crawford. Laurence majored in Fashion Marketing and worked in Barneys Buying Department. The brand was included in Vogue Italia’s “The Next Talents” exhibition in FW16.
The SS18 collection, “Makeup Factory,” derives from Laurence’s vision about the glam universe of makeup and the work of their friend Cui “Masa” Xiaohong as creator of Chinese cosmetics brand Marie Dalgar.
Silhouettes are voluminous and extreme. Shredded tweed, ruffled fabrics, and embroidered denim are tamed through great tailoring. A mix & match of gorgeous separates accented with pearls add a luxurious feel to your wardrobe. Custom prints and artisanal details infuse the over-the-top inspirations with sufficient amounts of sophistication.
I was left speechless while looking at these extraordinarily styled models placed on the dreamy terrain glamorized with glitter streams. Huge colorful wigs and bows landing their heads mixed with dazzling and colorful makeup by Marie Dalgar. Looking forward to their next show in a few days!
