My eighth day at the MB NY Fashion Week was in the midst of a mini snowstorm, which forced people to dress heavily – even those attending the Ralph Lauren show – adopting fur-trimmed hoods, beanies, snowboots and some raincoats! I saw smart fancy outfits such as colorful fur, fancy winter hats, wonderful stoles and scarves. True gentlemen were helping the ladies to secure their way along the snow while people around the building were opening snow-free corridors up for us to reach the entrance safely! But besides some scenes of little panic, most people were determined to enjoy the show and get there! Inside, the atmosphere was dramatically different – everything was graceful and in order – offering the guests the signature All-American lifestyle and the comfort we all needed at the moment. The collection was amazing, full of great pastels, flowing gowns, and intricate beading for the eveningwear, while dominated by brighter colors and folk embroidery for the day looks! The show coincided with the launch of the new Polo collection for women, which was fantastic! I just loved the embroidered jackets, the layering of the clothes and the focus on comfort. The space – decorated with two huge crystal chandeliers – complimented the spirit of the collection perfectly while the guests once more were the most elegant of the fashion week! Ralph Lauren is a master in creating the perfect ambiance!
In the same tune and withstanding extreme weather conditions, I continued with the J.Mendel show which featured some amazing fur coats and jackets processed with various super modern techniques and accompanied with excellently draped flowing evening gowns. It was sheer luxury, glamour, and an endorsement of the house’s roots – initially making only furs! Guests opted for fur too – wearing some exquisite pieces from his past and present collections! In my opinion, fur is a natural and sustainable choice and when done with respect and amazing talent, it can be a lifetime investment piece! As for the dresses, I bet that we are going to see many of them on the red carpet!
Finally, what a better way to conclude my NY MB Fashion Week amazing experience than a collective show of talented designers supporting the cause of the of FTL Moda, Art Hearts Fashion and Aids Healthcare Foundation! It was a long show of Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear, Sportswear and more, but it was worth it! I spotted many cool designs and many different names – my favorite ones being the Italians Giada Curti and Nino Lettieri! But I had to rush to see the much discussed Book of Mormon at the Eugene O’Neill theatre which was hilarious and amazing – one of the best Broadway performances I’ve ever seen! Smart humor and magical set design made it the perfect choice after the finale of the NY Fashion Week, which I further celebrated with a Japanese feast at the Shimizu restaurant close by! Finest quality raw seafood and many glasses of sake to make a toast to the next Fashion Week! Stay tuned for more reviews, trends and a general analysis of this season’s catwalks!
