Tribal-Inspired Fantasy!

Custo Barcelona presented the Spring/Summer 2014 collection, 3C: Chic, Contemporary, Colour, at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. It was a very charming show with smoother contrasts, increased sophistication and an advanced approach towards his signature mix & match! The international designer showcased delicate pieces juxtaposed through a play in subtle transparencies, woven patterns and tribal prints. This was the designer’s 32nd show at New York Fashion Week.

This time around, Custo Barcelona focused on the sophistication of a feminine collection featuring soft exteriors over strong, bold pieces with high waistlines. Déshabillé dresses get paired with oversized, woven coats with a myriad of patchwork, and cocoon pants that present perfectly alongside tiny shorts and miniskirts. Prints created and customized specifically by Custo Barcelona range from silk and chiffon to printed leather.

The collection color scheme surprisingly ranges from white to black yet include the signature Custo trademark of color in every look. From tribal prints with metallic lurex to laser-cut dresses ranging from hues of pink to blue.

The graphics printed on lurex allow fabrics for one-of-a-kind shine and luminosity, and overlaid silk chiffon provide glimpses of the shape and printed underlying pieces. Tribal-inspired geometric shapes unfold, creating new optical effects on each garment. Embossed guipure lace of varying patterns also create transparencies in coats, coverups and tunics.

For women, thin-heeled pumps, buckled at the ankle are subtle, delicate and a perfect match for each piece of the collection. Glasses featuring beveled, air-mounted lenses in varying colors match the pieces along with visors for headwear, round out the looks. Men’s spring shoe line feature slip-on, metallic patterned footwear.

The runway show at Lincoln Center in New York was attended by faithful followers of the brand, who did not miss a single detail of the new Custo Barcelona collection. Among those in attendance were Janice Dickinson, Miss “J” Alexander, June Ambrose, Jay Manuel, Almudena Fernández, Olivia de Borbón, Adriana De Moura, Diego Osorio, Fiona Ferrer, James Goldstein, Laura Hayden and Monica de Tomás. I just loved the show! It was unexpectedly different, although the designer kept under his new concept the major staples of his original style!
