The architecture of Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil as created by Oscar Niemeyer in the 1950’s, is the inspiration for the Elie Tahari Spring 2014 Women’s collection. The collection juxtaposes the contrast of strong linear shapes against graceful curves, symbolic of the futuristic city.
The collection brings together elements of sport with futuristic components such as high tech fabrics and materials, including raw edge silicone trim, exposed matte zippers, and laser cut leather bonded to mesh. Organza parkas, double-face leather biker vests, fitted scuba dresses, and easy pants in both prints and solids in lightweight fabrics are key pieces, with details such as washed out snakeskin prints, geometric eyelet, and waffle mesh. The soft color palette features mint foam, sand storm, light iris, soft sky, and rose mist.
In honor of Elie Tahari’s 40th Anniversary, select pieces from the collection called ‘Edition 1974,’ include updates of iconic silhouettes such as a swing coat, jumpsuit, a shift dress and signature leather pieces. The Spring 2014 Men’s collection combines distressed fabrics with smooth tailored elements. Key pieces include a slim fit leather biker jacket, stretch linen cropped pants, a herringbone linen garment washed jacket, sharply tailored blazers and mixed media leather and nylon outerwear pieces, with details including contrasting trims, raw edging, and a palette of blues, cool gray tones with a hint of teal. I truly liked a subtle futurism defining this collection as well as the layering of semi-transparent elements, cut-outs and textures. It was very fresh and youthful, very wearable, and at the same time, very luxurious!
